In 1965, The Royal Mint did something completely unprecedented and issued a coin to honour the life of Sir Winston Churchill.
Prior to this issue, no United Kingdom coin had ever depicted any person outside the Royal family.
Understandably, the 1965 Sir Winston Churchill Crown was, and remains, a hugely popular issue and a staple of any British coin collection.
